Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a degenerative joint condition that occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of bones gradually wears away. It's one of the most common forms of arthritis and can lead to pain, stiffness, and reduced joint function. Osteoarthritis in the knee joint can develop due to various factors, including age, genetics, joint injuries, and weight changes.

Symptoms of Knee OA

  • Pain in the knee joint that may worsen with activity and improve with rest
  • Stiffness, especially after periods of inactivity
  • Over time, decreased joint flexibility and range of motion
  • The knee joint may become swollen and feel tender to the touch
  • A sensation of grating or crunching (crepitus) may occur during movement

Treatment of Knee OA

  • Custom or OTC nnee brace to offload the knee when participating in exercise or walking
  • Custom orthotics to align the leg and knee to allow for proper gait
  • Orthopedic footwear to provide increased shock absorption and stability when walking
